Ole Report: Scaloni Hopes for His Return for the Copa America

Ole Report: Scaloni Hopes for His Return for the Copa America

According to Erik ten Hag’s comments before the match against Newcastle, Lisandro Martinez has recovered from his injury, which is good news for both the Argentine national team and Manchester United.

Lisandro Martinez suffered a tendon rupture in early April but has now recovered. Ten Hag confirmed in a press conference, "He (Lisandro) has been training with us for a few sessions, everything is going smoothly in training, and he will return to the team."

Argentina's national team coach, Lionel Scaloni, is focused on the Copa America and is looking forward to Lisandro’s return. Martinez has not yet appeared in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers nor participated in the team’s first friendly match. Furthermore, Lisandro has not gained much match experience before this event and can only get some playing time in Manchester United’s last three matches. During the last call-up, the defender joined the Argentina national team in the US for training, despite not being able to play, and returned to Manchester United after the international break.

Lisandro has suffered several injuries over the past year and has only played 11 matches in the Premier League this season, with his last appearance being the 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Brentford on March 30. As for the Argentina national team, his last match was a friendly against Panama on March 24 last year.

Regarding the Copa America squad, Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni has submitted a preliminary list of 35 players to CONMEBOL, which includes Lisandro Martinez. The final squad will be announced on June 12th.
