Mbappé Buys a Painting of Pelé for €520,000
According to Le Parisien, on the evening of May 16, 2024, forward Kylian Mbappé purchased a painting of football legend Pelé for €520,000 at a charity auction.
The auction, organized by Artcurial for the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation, was held on the evening of May 16 (Thursday). The painting, titled "O REI" (Portuguese for "The King"), is a 200x150 cm artwork created by contemporary artist Alexandre Hopaer in 2023.
The painting was initially priced at €5,000 and attracted bids from six buyers, reaching up to €300,000. During the auction, PSG forward Mbappé and his friend Achraf Hakimi bid against each other, much to the astonishment and amusement of the audience. Ultimately, Mbappé secured the painting for €520,000, setting a new record for the charity event. The auction raised a total of €2.7 million, which will be donated to charitable organizations.
