Ralf Rangnick will prioritise having a system over his best players, as he wants the side to stay compact on all parts of the pitch. For instance, the Austria boss might look to shake things up on the left side of the pitch and structure so that there is maximum security on either end.
Hence, Philipp Mwene might come in at left-back in place of Alexander Prass, while Marcel Sabitzer could move to the left side of the attack to replace Patrick Wimmer, who also happens to be at risk of a suspension.
While that left-sided role may not be ideal for Sabitzer, he can play there owing to his understanding of how Rangnick likes to operate. Austria are well-stocked in the midfield setup. Meanwhile, Christoph Baumgartner is expected to come in for Wimmer in the lineup.
Marko Arnautovic will again lead the Austrian line, and Nicolas Seiwald and Florian Grillitsch are the preferred choices to marshal the midfield for Rangninck.
Turkey
In what was a fiesty game with Czechia, Turkey’s win did come at a huge cost for Vincenzo Montella ahead of this knockout game against Austria. Hakan Calhanoglu picked up a yellow that effectively ruled him out of this game, where the Turkiye skipper was most needed.
Samet Akaydin also picked up a yellow, which will see the centre-back suspended for this encounter. Montella will miss two of his important players against Austria. Beyond that, the manager will need new leaders on his side who can help fill the gap left by the influential duo. On the positive side, Abdulkerim Bardakci will return from his suspension and should replace Akaydin in central defence.
Beyond that, Montella might make alterations, such as substituting Kaan Ayhan for Salih Ozcan in midfield and Orkun Kokcu replacing Calhanoglu in that attacking midfield role. Baris Alper Yilmaz will likely lead the line for Turkey, while Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz are likely to add support in the attacking third.
