Southgate: "Our purpose coming here is to make history."
In the European Championship semi-final, England defeated the Netherlands 2-1. After the match, England's coach Gareth Southgate spoke in an interview with UEFA officials.
Regarding the team's spirit, Southgate said, "Absolutely outstanding. I think the performance of the team was exceptional, and the contribution of two substitutes showed their spirit as a collective. Over the past five to six weeks, they've integrated incredibly well. No one has lost confidence, and they've all been waiting for their moment."
Discussing Watkins, Southgate commented, "I'm delighted for Watkins; he seized his moment. Many players have to perform under pressure, and he's just done that."
Regarding the possibility of England making history in this tournament, Southgate remarked, "That's why we're here. It was a very tough game, against probably the best team we've faced in the tournament. But we're still here, we're fighting, and we've put in a really outstanding performance. I'm very pleased for all those who have supported us."
