Lautaro: Becoming the club's all-time top foreign scorer is highly significant
After scoring the only goal of the match to help Inter Milan secure a 1-0 away victory against Roma, and being named the Serie A Player of the Match by the official selection, Lautaro Martínez spoke to DAZN.
This goal has a double significance because it’s your 133rd goal for Inter, making you the club’s all-time top foreign scorer.
"It means a lot because ever since I arrived here, they've treated me like one of their own, like someone born here, and that’s very important. I have to keep working hard as always. Today we faced a very strong team, but after the international break and all the challenges, we had to show our strength as a team, and we did that. Now we have to keep pushing because we have an important match on Wednesday, followed by the Italian Derby," said Lautaro.
If you had to choose one of those 133 goals, which one would it be?
"My first one, a header against Cagliari at San Siro. It started everything—pure happiness."
Did you send Messi any messages about the Ballon d'Or?
"No, we talked when we were with the national team, but we didn’t discuss the Ballon d'Or. We’re just happy with how things are going with the national team, and happy to have him back with us."
How do you feel about being one of the Ballon d'Or nominees?
"Very happy. You have to work hard for the team, but personal recognition like this is important for the work you put in. I focus on the team, but if individual honors like this come, it’s because of the coach, my teammates, and the fans."
Will you treat the team to dinner after scoring today?
"I’ve been treating them for three years already... but no problem, we are a great team and everyone is working hard to raise their level."
