Financial company promoted by stars like Vinicius is accused of fraud

According to Spanish media outlet eldiario, hundreds of victims of a cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme are planning to sue around 20 current and former football players, accusing them of promoting the company “Omegapro,” which is under investigation for alleged fraud.

Among the current players, Real Madrid's Vinícius is one of the most notable names; among the retired players mentioned are Ronaldinho, Kaká, Luís Figo, Iker Casillas, Carles Puyol, Éric Abidal, Roberto Carlos, and Fernando Hierro.

Reportedly, "Omegapro" deceived investors by promising returns of up to 300% within 14 months, resulting in approximately €3 billion in losses. Some players were involved in promotional events for the company, while others advertised it through social media.

Victims were led to trust the company primarily due to the influence of these football players. The report also mentioned that three executives from the company have been arrested, while two others are still at large. Additionally, regulatory authorities in several countries had previously warned about the unreliability of "Omegapro."

Notably, the scheme began in 2022, and the Spanish Securities Market Commission had already listed "Omegapro" as an opaque financial operation in 2020.
