Pochettino: Mexico performed better than us; give me more time to understand the players

After a friendly match in which Mexico defeated the United States 2-0, U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino attended a press conference.

Pochettino stated, “Overall, I think Mexico performed slightly better than us, and they fully deserved the win. But for us, this is a project that we only started ten days ago, and today was a great opportunity for our players to play in a very challenging environment. I think we can improve and learn from this experience.”

He continued, “We are all disappointed because I believe we didn’t get all the players we wanted. For various reasons, we were missing some players, and we were a bit short-handed here. I want to thank the players who were here because they performed brilliantly, very professionally, and did extremely well. That's all. It was just a game that we lost in Mexico. We wanted to win, and I think we need to maintain a positive attitude in these types of matches. We need more games like this to raise our level.”

Lastly, Pochettino said, “Give me more time to evaluate all the players, get to know them, and then I’ll be able to give a better opinion, a more in-depth opinion than what I currently have.”
